FOCA & CELA Weigh in on Drinking Water Issues

The Safe Drinking Water Act was passed in 2002 to address drinking water treatment, testing, and distribution in Ontario. This was followed by the Clean Water Act in 2006 which addressed drinking water source protection. Twenty years later 18% of Ontario’s population is not covered by existing source protection plans including people who draw drinking water from domestic wells and villages, hamlets, and towns that lack municipal drinking water systems.

GBA included a presentation on Georgian Bay drinking water issues in the H2O 2021 webinar series. Now two organizations that GBA works closely with – the Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations and Canadian Environmental Law Association – have joined forces to present this open letter calling for the protective coverage of the Clean Water Act to be extended to all Ontarians.
