The community associations that comprise Georgian Bay Association are located on the traditional territories of numerous First Nations who also have reserve lands around the Bay.
|Wikwemikong||Moose Deer Point|
|Henvey Inlet||Christian Island|
|Magnetawan||Chippewas of Nawash|
and there are other First Nation communities on Manitoulin Island:
|M’Chigeeng||Aundeck Omni Kaning|
GBA has identified a priority to reach out to try to create a meaningful dialogue with many of these First Nations, particularly as we promote the concept of Guardians of Georgian Bay and work on our various environmental initiatives.
To be a conduit for communications with First Nations on issues of interest.
To seek awareness and understanding of First Nations’ perspectives on land, forest, fisheries and water issues and work to improve communications between GBA and its member associations on the one hand and First Nations bands on the other and to nurture collaborative guardianship efforts on facets of Georgian Bay of common concern
