Transport Canada Wants Your Input on Boat Noise
Want to take action on excessive boat noise? Transport Canada (TC) has opened up the discussion and is seeking your input on decibel limits for boats. As part of their decision making process, the Let’s Talk Transportation portal invites your comments and suggestions on small vessel noise emissions.
Excessive boat noise is a pervasive problem on Canadian waterways and the level of boating noise is only going to increase over time. The EU and many American states have already had decibel limits in place for decades. According to the Safe Quiet Lakes Your Lakes, Your Views survey, which GBA members overwhelmingly participated in last year, excessive boat noise is a problem on our Bay. GBA and the Decibel Coalition are supporting Option 5, which would update the Small Vessel Regulations by introducing noise-emission standards for manufacturers and operators.
