Steer Clear of Waterbombers

Forest fire season is well underway, and although it’s been quiet so far on the Bay, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNR) want to remind you that fire fighters need space to work. They are asking boaters to keep an eye on the sky and steer clear of waterbombers. If a boater sees one of the aircraft, they are asked to move close to shore so that the plane can scoop up water. A waterbomber will not scoop from a lake or river if watercraft make it unsafe to do so which can delay suppressing fires and put people at risk.

So far this year only around a dozen wildfires have been reported by the Ministry, which mostly occurred in mid-May. GBA monitors the fire danger ratings throughout the summer to help you keep up with conditions in your part of the Bay. You can view our weekly Fire Danger Rating Report here.
