Seguin Township Seeking MZO to Zone 700 Acre Site Adjacent to Parry Sound as Residential
Seeking a solution for the attainable housing shortage in West Parry Sound, Seguin Township wants to ask the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to rezone 700 acres to fast-track the development of new residential housing.
Misuse of the Minister’s Zoning Order (MZO) by the Ford government supporting developer driven circumvention of planning processes, including environmental assessments, is a concern. This MZO is not developer driven and GBA understands that all due planning processes for any developments on this site, including environmental protections, will apply. Nonetheless, circumventing the zoning process is an unfortunate precedent. There is a chronic shortage of affordable housing in cottage country, so providing the potential to create new units for service industry workers is likely essential to ensure high quality services continue to be available for seasonal residents. However it would be better if these municipal neighbours could reach agreement on the best way forward. Read more here
