June 1st Water Levels
At the start of June, all of the Great Lakes are above their long-term average levels. However, Lake Superior is 5 inches below its level of a year ago, and 10 inches below its record high level for June. Lakes Michigan-Huron, St. Clair, and Erie are 2 to 4 inches above last year’s levels, while Lake Ontario is 22 inches below its record high June water level that occurred last year. Over the next 30 days, Lakes Superior and Michigan-Huron are projected to rise 1 and 2 inches, respectively.
Lake Superior’s outflow into the St. Marys River and Lake Michigan-Huron’s outflow into the St. Clair River are predicted to be above average in June.
