July 20th Water Levels
Last week temperatures throughout the basin were slightly above normal summertime temperatures. Most of the watershed saw well below normal precipitation, with the exception of the northeastern area of Lower Michigan which received above normal rainfall. This weekend a low pressure system will move through the region which will return temperatures to near average for this time of year. This system will bring rain to the basin throughout the weekend and into early next week. Most of the basin will receive about 1 inch of rainfall.
All of the Great Lakes remain above their long-term average levels for July. Lake Superior is the only lake that has risen over the last 30 days, rising 3 inches. There has been no change in the average water level on Lake Michigan-Huron over the last 30 days. Over the next month Lake Michigan-Huron is expected to fall 1 inch.
Lake Superior’s outflow into the St. Mary’s River and Lake Michigan-Huron’s outflow into the St. Clair River are predicted to be above average in July.
