Great Lakes Protection Act tabled today by the Government of Ontario
Today the Government of Ontario tabled the Great Lakes Protection Act. http://news.ontario.ca/ene/en/2015/02/ontario-to-introduce-legislation-to-protect-the-great-lakes.html. This is the third iteration of this Act as the first two died on the order table before being passed when sessions of the Legislature were ended. We have high hopes that this legislation will be passed into law.
GBA Executive Director, Bob Duncanson, commented on the Legislation as follows, ”The Georgian Bay Association is encouraged by the Ontario Government’s commitment to protect the Great Lakes in order that their waters are swimmable, fishable, and drinkable. As we understand the proposed Great Lakes Protection Act, it will empower grass roots organizations and communities to work together toward this goal. It will provide latitude to address regional stresses and set regional targets for improvement. We strongly endorse this approach and look forward to working with government when they implement this Legislation.”
