Calling for the Ontario Government to Stop Using MZOs Inappropriately
GBA joined a large group of NGOs to ask the Ontario government to stop using Minister’s Zoning Orders (MZOs) to circumvent the environmental assessment and planning approval process for developments, and follow due process, including public consultation under the Environmental Bill of Rights.
MZOs allow the minister to override local planning rules and propel provincial decisions on property development. Along with bypassing municipal regulations, MZOs require no public notice or consultation, and are not subject to appeal.
