August 10th Water Levels
The past week was punctuated by several intense rain storms across the Great Lakes basin, resulting in 24-hour rainfall totals ranging from 0.5 inch to over 3 inches in some locations of the basin each day from Saturday to Wednesday. As a result, stream flows are normal to significantly above normal across much of the Great Lakes basin.
All of the Great Lakes remain above their long-term average levels, but Lake Michigan-Huron is 2 inches below its level of one year ago, having fallen by 1 inch over the last 30 days. Over the next 30 days Lake Michigan-Huron is forecast to fall by 2 inches.
Lake Superior’s outflow through the St. Mary’s River and Lake Michigan-Huron’s outflow into the St. Clair River are projected to be above average in August.
