GBA - Summer 2019
17 ≥ www.georgianbay.ca GBA UPDATE Summer 2019 When the Ojibway Hotel closed in the late 50s, it was a group of PaBIA Islanders that promoted and founded the Ojibway Club (a separate organization from PaBIA) which took over the historic property and maintenance of the buildings. Though separate, we mutually benefit from one another. The Club provides an important central location for PaBIA social activities and together, they produce an annual Yearbook with membership contact information, reports, stories, pictures and advertisements which, in turn, pay for the printing and mailing of the book. In addition to the printed book, PaBIA’s website ( www.pabia.ca ) and weekly Connections e-Blasts - during the summer season and quarterly the rest of the year - keep members informed about our services and events as well as the broader set of concerns involving water quality, the environment and land use that affect all of us up and down Georgian Bay. Some would say that the Ojibway is the central community centre while PaBIA keeps a close watch on anything off the Ojibway island that helps to “promote, protect, and preserve our unique and natural region.” PaBIA has been a member of GBA since GBA’s formation. GBA’s ability to deal with Bay-wide issues on our behalf is very important to us, allowing us to focus on our own area while keeping informed and actively involved through our representatives to the GBA Board.
