Starlink Internet Service is Coming to Georgian Bay
Elon Musk’s Starlink internet service began beta testing in the Parry Sound-Almaguin region early in February, and comments about the service so far are positive. Customers participating in the beta test say that the set up has been simple and are reporting average internet speeds between 70 and 120 megabits per second. The satellite equipment needs a clear line of sight. The limited current coverage areas are expected to eventually expand to cover all of Georgian Bay with the launch of future satellites.
Starlink provides high-speed satellite internet service to rural and remote areas where internet connection has been precarious and expensive. It requires an initial investment in equipment of $650 and costs $129 per month for unlimited internet. The service is currently only in beta testing and not yet available for general public use.
